Annual
Fall Conference
Co Sponsored By Women's Health Research At Yale
Saturday October
18TH, 2003 1-4pm
Sterling Yale Law School, Auditorium, Grove St.
New Haven, CT.
Speaker:
Dr. Susan Vernon
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
National Centers for Infectious Disease,
Atlanta, Georgia
Topic Title: "Unraveling the cause(s) of chronic
fatigue syndrome in the
post-genomic era."
Dr. Susan Vernon is doing groundbreaking chronic fatigue
syndrome research at
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Her newly discovered gene expression work may someday be
used as a marker for CFS. Dr. Vernon and her colleagues
have found that they are able to distinguish between
PWC'S (CFS patients) and normal healthy control test
subjects on the basis of their gene expression. Measuring
gene expression can give clues about how a cell's
operation is abnormal. Dr. Vernon is looking at certain
white cells from blood samples, looking at the
communication and messages sent between cells.
This is NOT genetics pertaining to heredity. This
research is also finding that patients can be
distinguished between rapid onset and gradual onset based
on gene expression differences.
Come learn new findings, and understand the science
behind the research.
We would like to thank Pfizer for their continuing
support of our association.
